Blog From US Soldier in Iraq

I received these links from a friend of mine. I haven't read through them all yet, but it looked interesting and good for sharing so I'm posting it right away. My friend is former Army, so this site resonated with him particularly strongly.

Apparently the guy writing this has been asked by the Army to back off on the details re: day-to-day ops, so the older entries are more detailed. Here's the message from my friend:
Thought you might be interested in the "blog" that I stumbled on today - while reading an Associated Press article on bloggers who are military people in Iraq and other dangerous places.

This one guy, "CBFTW", writes well, and puts the reader right there with him. Eventually, his stuff became so noticed and quoted here and abroad that the "higher ups" advised him to stop posting such stuff - OPSEC concerns, etc. He's stationed somewhere around Mosul.

Here are a few links to some of his better writing, in chronological order. The last two pieces are particularly striking:

  • I Hate O.P.s
  • When I Wake Up The Real Nightmare Begins
  • Thanks, But No Thanks
  • I'm Not Even Supposed To Be Here Today
  • I Don't Want To Live Alone
  • Men In Black
