Election: Epilogue

Some thoughts post-election: 1) Exit polls don't mean squat in close elections, 2) the Democrats need to figure out how to capture one more region of the country -- 4 or 5 states, 3) direct marketing techniques are being used to segment and target the voters, so I suspect these close elections are here to stay, 4) the biggest downer for Democrats is that the GOP now controls all branches of government and will have an incredible opportunity to stack the courts, thereby affecting the judicial branch for a generation, 5) it seems like the Dems must run a candidate from the South or Mid-West next time -- no more NE (or "left coast") candidates. That means no Hillary '08, I'm afraid -- although I would vote for her in a second, and 6) watch for a major shakeup of the DNC leadership.

Oh, and one last thing, my understanding is that the Dems actually got out the vote they wanted to, but they way underestimated the get-out-the-vote efforts of the GOP.
