Sara Update Week Ending September 22, 2001
Hello Family and Friends,
We hope this message finds all of you well and that none of you have been directly affected by the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
For us, we were lucky. Grandma Janet and Grandpa Ted were supposed to arrive on Tuesday the 11th, but had not left for the airport when the terrorists hit New York. They cancelled their trip and will hopefully come soon.
Alan was stuck in Atlanta last week and decided to drive home. He and two colleagues drove to Denver where they caught a plane and flew the rest of the way. Other than some additional plane delays, Alan made it home without incident late last Friday night.
Let's see, Sara is almost 1! It seems impossible to believe. She is really turning into a little girl and she never ceases to amaze.
Sara is running... Sara is picking up speed. She is running and while this led to certain stumbles and falls a couple of weeks ago, she now runs without a tumble most of the time.
Sara's cognitive skills are impressing her parents... Sara has transformed from copying things that we show her to using her brain as a tool to solve problems. We were taking Sara and Cleo for a walk and Victoria always lets Sara hold the leash by the loop at the end. This time, Sara caught the leash at the other end. So, with leash in hand she went hand over hand, until she got to the loop. No one has ever showed her this. Sara did it all on her own. Problem solving skills in action.
Sara wanted to pick up a book that was at the bottom of a pile of books. The book at the bottom was too heavy with the other books piled on top so Sara took one book off the top and tried again. She still could not pick up the book on the bottom so she took one book off at a time, each time trying to see if she could pick up the bottom book. Sara removed one book at a time until she could lift the bottom book. Wow!
On a lighter note, Sara can twirl. Today, she twirled five times in a row before she fell down. If you think about it, that takes a lot of coordination; especially getting those feet to cooperate.
Sara plays with and teases Cleo. Sara will run up to Cleo with an object that Cleo wants and then will run way with it when Cleo tries to take it. Sara really likes this game. Sara also plays the game called: I don't want to eat this, would you like it Cleo? Cleo really likes this game.
Sara is eating solid food. She likes ham and cheese sandwiches, apples, carrots, potatos, cheerios, chicken, pasta and Cleo's kibble.
Sara has four teeth, two on the bottom and two on the top. We keep thinking she's getting more, but so far, nothing.
Sara's friends are Cameron, Lilly, Max, Ben, Samantha, Julie, Collin, Sarah, Louis, Ruth, Hannah and Rachel.
Firsts... Sara went to her first birthday party, went into her first swimming pool, had her first ear infection, and played with Duplo building blocks for the first time.
Sara's first freckle is on her right hand just above her index finger. So far, she only has one freckle. Didn't you always want to know which freckle was your very first one?
We will write again soon.
Much love,
Alan and Victoria
